How do you adjust when you outgrow your friends?

In answer to blogging2's Hub Request:

The only thing you can do is

Follow your own path. You are obligated to find your own future, and while your friends have value for you, especially in your memories, not everyone can be in the same place at the same time. Love and cherish your friends, but don't feel bad if you've outgrown them. Relationships change and grow. Sometimes you allow each other that growth, but sometimes you can inadvertently hold each other back. Be kind, trust your instincts, and always be yourself. You might have to have a conversation with them, in which case it might be helpful to plan out in advance what you want to say. On the other hand, you may just drift apart naturally, which can be fine too. Remember life is all about change and if your old friends can't handle the "new you" that should tell you all you need to know.

Old friends can hold you back when you naturally progress toward a fuller life, and sometimes one must be secure enough to be alone, rather than to be held back artificially.
