BRIDESMAIDS stole my life!

Why does all this sound so familiar?

Like everyone else in the audience, I cried laughing, watching the new hit female comedy BRIDESMAIDS. Loved it. But it wasn't until I came home that I realized I had also been a little uncomfortable too.

For those of you planning to see it, stop right here to avoid some spoilers...

So often we laugh at what we perceive to be truth. Recognizing a fellow human being making a mistake is so familiar - we can all relate to that feeling of everything gone wrong. Right? But how often does almost everything in a movie parallel what's happened to you? And recently? Need more detail? Here goes.

Checklist: BM vs My LIfe:

Main character loses her job. Check.

Main character loses her apartment and deals with psychopaths. Check.

Main character sleeps with assholes. Check.

Main character falls for an Irishman. Check. Well, hers actually liked her back, so let's make that a half-check.

Main character never feels more alone than when dealing with someone else's wedding. Check.

Main character has car trouble. Check. Well, mine was actually totaled (I win that round, missy!)

Main character helps her friend in need during her own time of crisis, fixing herself in the process. Check.

Main character rediscovers her passion for doing something she is good at and maybe making some money at it too. Check.

Main character finds friendship in the least expected places. Check.

So it's no wonder that I couldn't stop thinking about this movie. Well, that and it's pretty hilarious (go buy a ticket now!) The main character, Annie, has such a screwed up life that she just can't keep a handle on things. The extremities of what happen are so absurd, it's too delightful to share here, so seriously, go see it already.

I think this might be the first movie I've seen that I've had that much in common with in a right-time, right-place sort of way. Not to mention, these gals have a lot riding on this project since Hollywood is hovering and watching to see how the box office does. Unfair! They shouldn't have to shoulder the entire burden of being funny as women. Thank God they are though. Pretty damn funny, in fact. The writing and acting are both at the same time, exaggerated and very real. Don't ask me how they managed to convey that all at once, but it works really well.

Too late for me to write my memoirs though, eh? Ah well, at least we both get happy endings. I hope ....
